Safety bears heavily on the risk inherent in any contract, and non-aligning standards for safety are often deal breakers making the commercial implications significant. With higher levels of contractor involvement, organisations face complex issues of liability, responsibility and due diligence, and this becomes event more challenging at the sub-contractor level where standards can be more difficult to enforce. Integrating safety related activities and resources between principal and contractor organisations is an increasing trend, with the focus turning from paperwork to people. Care and ‘felt leadership’ and a higher level of involvement in safety training and cultural alignment programs have been seen as an integral aspect in the journey towards Zero Harm. In this context, this event offers practical ideas for achieving alignment and integration of safety processes conveyed through case studies from a variety of organisations and contractors.
